When Maersk opened their new facility at Arndell Park in NSW, they needed a safety solution that could keep up with a busy warehouse environment from day one. Impact Barriers was engaged to supply and install the Heavy Duty Polymer (HDP) Barriers and Pedestrian Gates throughout the facility.
The goal was clear, separate pedestrian and forklift zones, protect people and assets, and do it without creating bottlenecks in a high-throughput operation.
Why Polymer for a New Facility?
Starting fresh gave Maersk the opportunity to get the safety setup right from the outset. Polymer barriers were the practical choice for a facility of this type. They absorb impact and flex on contact rather than deforming permanently, which means after a forklift clip, the barrier springs back rather than sitting bent and compromised until someone can schedule a repair.
For a logistics operation running around the clock, that matters. There’s no paint chipping onto product, no rust risk in areas where hygiene standards apply, and no maintenance shutdown required to replace a buckled section.
Our Pedestrian Gates paired directly with the HDP barrier system, giving workers a defined, safe entry and exit point into pedestrian zones. The soft-close hinge keeps the gate shut between uses, so there’s no relying on people to pull it closed behind them.
The Outcome
Maersk now has clear, physical separation between forklift traffic and pedestrian walkways across the facility. Assets and building infrastructure are protected at key impact points. And because the barriers are built to take repeated hits and keep performing, the team isn’t looking at constant replacement costs down the line.
